As of today, there are no entrance examination conducted by DGCA or any other department under Government of India for AME course (CAR 145).
(As per the requirements given in CAR-66 & CAR – 147(b) issued by DGCA, Govt of India, there requires no specific entrance test for taking admission in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course. as per “CAR – 66 para no. 66.a.15. eligibility” only below mentioned criteria is required.
a) The applicant must have passed 10+2 examination in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognized board or university or its equivalent.
b) The applicant should have been assessed medically fit by a registered medical practitioner to perform the scope of work.)
Following points to be known well by the student before taking admission;
1. Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is conducted by DGCA, Ministry of Civil Aviation, which is the regulatory body in India.
2. AME course is not a degree/diploma but a Licence examination, which has national and international importance with regards to issue of fitness certificate of the aircraft.
3. Near joining in the institution will not get you an AME license unless and until you clear all the DGCA Modular Examinations. And you have to additionally acquire maintenance experience on the operating aircraft which will help you to fulfil the necessary requirements for acquiring AME license awarded by DGCA, Government of India.
4. Students who choose AME course should keep in mind that they must get AME license and that should be the goal of the any aspiring AME candidate.
As per the Aircraft Act 1934 passed by Indian Parliament and rule number 61 of Aircraft Rule 1937, DGCA empowers only the person who is in possession with current and valid Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s license to issue Certificate of Release to Service also known as Certificate of Fitness for Flying. No matter whatever the qualification of a person (viz B. E, B. Tech, M. Tech or Research Scholar in the field of Aviation or other field) is not allowed to carry out any maintenance activities or issue of any certificate related to Maintenance in Aircraft.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is the regulatory body in the field of Civil Aviation primarily dealing with safety issues. It is responsible for regulation of air transport services to/from/within India and for enforcement of civil air regulations, air safety and airworthiness standards. It also co-ordinates all regulatory functions with International Civil Aviation Organisation. The headquarters are located in New Delhi with regional offices in the various parts of India.
Aircraft maintenance engineers ensure safety across assigned aircraft. In order to do this, they perform maintenance, both scheduled and emergency. This can include dismantling, inspecting, testing, repairing and reassembling aircraft engines; installing electrical circuits; testing aircraft communication equipment, aircraft instrumentation, and electronic systems; replacing and testing aircraft oxygen system components; assembling parts and subassemblies of aircraft frames; and conducting routine prefight inspections of engines and mechanical systems. They are also required to keep detailed records of the maintenance performed.
